International Affairs Division
"Partner in Science across the seas"
The International Affairs Division (IAD) (then International Liaison Division established in January 2005) assumes a critical role in enhancing the capabilities of researchers through specialized overseas training at world-class R&D centres and centres of excellence. This initiative is designed to elevate the quality of research and development (R&D) outputs. Furthermore, the IAD facilitates the establishment of cross-border partnerships for scientific cooperation and research collaboration, contributing to the elevated visibility of Sri Lanka’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) landscape. These strategic partnerships not only foster collaborative research but also provide access to cutting-edge R&D infrastructure abroad, empowering Sri Lankan researchers to transcend geographical boundaries and generate impactful R&D outcomes, thereby maximizing the value for investment. The interventions initiated by the IAD enable Sri Lankan researchers to tap into cutting-edge knowledge, achieve excellence in research through global networks, and contribute significantly to the training, capacity building, and skill development of the R&D workforce. In addition, the IAD ensures that Sri Lankan scientists acquire benefits from bilateral and multilateral cooperation with institutions abroad. By doing so, the IAD plays a crucial role in integrating Sri Lanka into the global value chain, fostering progressive advancements in Science, Technology, and Innovation for socio-economic advantages.
